Sleeping in Montreal-Trudeau Airport: Terminal, Rest Spots, and Hotels

Montréal-Trudeau stays open all night, so sleeping in the terminal is possible. Whether it is sensible depends on how much rest you actually need before your flight. This guide covers the realistic options inside the building and the hotels that solve the problem properly.

Overnight inside the terminal

The public landside hall is open 24 hours. Seating is mostly benches and rows of chairs, some with fixed armrests, and overnight cleaning, announcements and early check-in queues start well before 5:00 am. Travellers without a same-day boarding pass may be asked to explain themselves during the small hours, so keep your itinerary handy.

Airside is more comfortable, with padded seating and recliner-style chairs in places, but access depends on your departure sector and closing times of security checkpoints. If you are connecting internationally and already through security, staying airside is usually the better night.

There are no sleep pods, nap capsules or bookable rest suites anywhere at YUL: see sleep pods and rest zones for what exists instead.

The in-terminal option

The Marriott Montreal Airport In-Terminal Hotel is connected to the U.S. departures terminal. You can walk from the check-in hall to your room, sleep in a soundproofed bed, and walk back to security in the morning. For an early transborder flight through U.S. preclearance, no other hotel at YUL comes close for convenience.

Hotels minutes away by free shuttle

Four hotels in Dorval run complimentary shuttles: the Sheraton Montreal Airport Hotel (24 hours, every 30 minutes from YUL Door 8), the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Montreal Airport (under a kilometre away, with free hot breakfast), the Aloft Montreal Airport (one kilometre, with a 24-hour grab-and-go counter) and the DoubleTree By Hilton Montreal Airport (every 30 minutes, under 10 minutes each way). Any of them turns an uncomfortable terminal night into a real one for the price of a mid-range room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sleep overnight inside Montreal-Trudeau Airport?

Yes. The terminal is open around the clock and resting passengers are generally tolerated, but comfort is limited: landside seating is mostly benches, cleaning and announcements continue all night, and passengers without a boarding pass may be asked to move along by security during the quietest hours.

Does Montreal Airport have sleep pods?

No. YUL has no sleep pods, nap suites or dedicated rest zones. The realistic alternatives are a quiet bench or recliner, the Marriott connected to the terminal, or a shuttle hotel in Dorval a few minutes away.

Which is the best hotel for a night at Montreal Airport?

For the shortest walk to a gate, the Marriott Montreal Airport In-Terminal Hotel, connected to the U.S. departures terminal. For a lower rate, the Sheraton's free 24-hour shuttle runs every 30 minutes, and the Fairfield Inn & Suites adds a free hot breakfast under a kilometre away.
